Well it’s a new year, and with it comes new films to enjoy. 2018 gave us exciting movies like Black Panther, Ready Player One, Mission: Impossible — Fallout, Aquaman and Avengers: Infinity War. This year looks to up the ante in providing quality entertainment.
Here are 7 films you should watch this year:
Captain Marvel
Release date: March 8th.
It’s no secret Marvel Studios has had tremendous success over ten years, but it’s even more surprising how they’ve never made a film with a female lead (a la Wonder Woman). Though they’re a little late the party, here’s to hoping this film will be both entertaining and empowering.
Shazam!
Release date: April 5th
With the success of Aquaman, movies based on DC comic characters now have a chance to prove they can stand toe-to-toe with Marvel films. ‘Shazam!’ will have a lighter and more comedic tone, which hopefully doesn’t take away from its overall quality.
Avengers: Endgame
Release date: April 26th
Speaking of Marvel, the follow up to last year’s ‘Infinity War’ will undoubtedly give audiences an epic conclusion filled with camaraderie and sacrifice. It will also most likely be a send-off for most of the heroes we’ve come to love over the past ten years.
John Wick: Chapter 3 — Parabellum
Release date: May 17th
Aside from the title having both a colon and a hyphen, this third installment puts our favourite assassin in even more seemingly impossible situations. The first two films delivered great action set pieces and ‘Parabellum’ will most likely give action fans more to enjoy.
Godzilla: King of the Monsters
Release date: May 31st
Fans of giant monster movies, this one is for you. This will be a battle royale bringing in more well-known creatures that have appeared throughout the ‘Godzilla’ franchise, pitting them against each other to see who the King of the monsters really is.
Terminator: Dark Fate
Release date: November 1st
You’re probably thinking, “Another Terminator movie?!” However, this film will see the return of James Cameron (director of the first two Terminator films) in a producing role, giving it the magic touch other ‘Terminator’ sequels didn’t have. Also, Linda Hamilton returns as the fierce Sarah Connor.
Star Wars Episode IX
Release date: December 20th
Given the divisive critical receptions for both ‘The Last Jedi’ and ‘Solo: A Star Wars story,’ fans have become skeptical about whether the franchise can be great again. Director J.J. Abrams, who began the new trilogy with ‘The Force Awakens,’ returns to end it with episode IX. Will it be the movie audiences appreciate, or will there be backlash? We’ll have to wait and see.
